    “Der Norden ist klimatisch anders als der Süden. Oben ist es grün, unten braun. Dementsprechend ist der Himmel nicht immer blau, sondern oft auch wolkenverhangen. Zwischen La Matanza und Puerto de la Cruz hat man trotzdem meistens ein Sonnenloch, das sich erstaunlich regelmäßig nachmittags und abends öffnet.
    Wenn man weitestmöglich weg vom üblichen Touristenrummel sein möchte, ist man hier genau richtig. Trotzdem hat man eine komplett funktionierende Infrastruktur (wenn man von den gelegentlich, auch sehr lange andauern könnenden Stromausfällen absieht), zu sehr guten Supermärkten braucht man keine 5 Minuten, Puerto de la Cruz ist nur 10 Minuten entfernt, La Laguna 15. Sehr überraschend ist die gute medizinische Situation auf der Insel, viele Ärzte sprechen Deutsch, Englisch eigentlich alle, die Apotheken führen wirklich alles, was man benötigt, auch exotischere Medikamente. Das Anmieten eines Auto oder (oft besser wegen der engen Straßen und wenigen Parkplätze) ein Motorrad ist aus unserer Sicht unverzichtbar, denn: am schönsten ist es da, wo die Straßen enden, und auch da muss man erstmal hinkommen...”
