The Steading at Hearthstanes Estate - Glenheurie Rig Cottage

Recently renovated traditional Steading cottage on a working hill farm in the Scottish Borders. Set in unspoiled countryside with great opportunities for hiking, sightseeing, stalking, fishing and falconry on the Estate itself. We are within easy reach of Edinburgh and Glasgow airports, as well as Newcastle ferry port.

Within the Steading courtyard this self-catering cottage contains a living-room with dining area, modern country kitchen with oven, stove, microwave, fridge/freezer and dishwasher. Also on ground floor there is one bedroom with a pull-out double bed and bathroom. On the first floor there are two additional bedrooms and one bathroom. One bedroom has a double bed and the other bedroom two single beds. Both bathrooms have bathtubs with shower stalls, toilets and wash basins. In total about 120 square meters over the two floors. Electric heating and hot water is provided by our own hydro electric system.

The cobbled Steading courtyard is shared by five other cottages, stables and 9-pin automated bowling alley, which is available for hire. There is a free picnic table and BBQ within courtyard for all guests. The Steading is set within Hearthstanes Estate, a traditional Scottish hill farm with extensive woodland, its ideal for many outdoor activities.

Hearthstanes Estate offers hiking, biking, stalking, fishing and falconry opportunities. In the evenings there is an automated 9-pin bowling alley at the Steading.

We are within easy reach of Edinburgh, Glasgow and the Scottish Borders. Local market towns include Peebles, Moffat and Biggar. Traquair House (oldest continually inhabited house in Scotland), Abbotford House (home of Sir Walter Scott), Hadrian's Wall, and numerous Abbeys are less than an hours drive.

    “Zeer mooi vakantiehuis. Zeer ruim, heel proper, verzorgd en mooi ingericht. Alles aanwezig wat je nodig hebt. Zeer vriendelijke eigenaars, die altijd voor je klaar staan. Je krijgt ook veel info over de omgeving en wat je er allemaal kan doen.”

    “Vooraf contact gehad met de eigenaar om, enkele details door te nemen (hoe laat de verwachte aankomst is en welke/hoeveel bedden er opgemaakt mogen worden). Vriendelijk ontvangen bij aankomst, als je wat extra nodig hebt kun je de eigenaar altijd bellen.
    Mooi en goed onderhouden huis, van alle gemakken voorzien. Goed uitgeruste keuken, waar alles werkt en netjes schoon is (let op: elektrisch koken). Alle slaapkamers hebben een eigen badkamer/toilet, deze zijn netjes/schoon en van handdoeken, zeep, etc. voorzien. Als er al iets te klagen zou zijn: het tweepersoonsbed is wat smal, maar dat kun je ook lekker knus noemen.
    Parkeerplaats voor de deur...... BBQ in de tuin, wat wil je nog meer..... Wifi werkt (meestal).
    Mooi rustig in de natuur gelegen, wij gaan zeker nog een keer terug.”

    “So eine tolle Ferienwohnung, noch viel schöner als auf den Fotos. Danke an den mehr als freundlichen und hilfsbereiten Vermieter Ralph. Kommen gern wieder. Man bekommt dort sehr viel Infomaterial, was man machen kann. So kann man einfach die Broschüren durch gehen und seinen Tag spontan planen. Einfach nur perfekt auch zum Wandern”
