The Gulf of Tigullio is located in the eastern Ligurian Riviera, in the province of Genoa, formed by the towns of Portofino, Santa Margherita Ligure, Rapallo, Zoagli, Chiavari, Lavagna and Sestri Levante. Geographically it is enclosed in Punta Manara and the promontory of Portofino. Historically, it was inhabited by Tigulli, hence the name, popolozione pre-Roman family of Liguria. With the Genoese dominion, was the seat of the Captaincy of Chiavari and Rapallo podesterie, then Captaincy, Sestri Levante Moneglia.
