    “Der Ort Ilfeld wirkt etwas idylisch-verwunschen und hat seinen eigen Charme. Touristisch mögen ihn andere Orte eingeholt haben, aber wer Ruhe sucht und gerne wandert, für den ist es paradiesisch. Am Samstagabend kurz nach 22:00 Uhr ist es uns nicht mehr möglich gewesen, etwas Warmes zu Essen zu bekommen, am Sonntag gibt es Brötchen wohl nur in einem Truckstopp-Shop am Ortsrand, dort allerdings bis um 18:00 Uhr. In der Nähe des Ilfelder Hauptbahnhofes gibt es einen Getränkemarkt sowie einen Edeka-Lebensmittelladen, eine Aotheke, einen Zeitungsladen und einige wenige Gaststätten und einen Pub mit Eiscafé im Sommer. Durch die Harzer Schmalspurbahnen und eine Tram (nach Nordhausen) ist man ohne Auto gut angebunden, zum Brocken fährt am Vormittag ein Dampfzug direkt hoch. Zu erwandern gibt es unheimlich viele Sehenswürdigkeiten in der Nähe. Gefallen hat uns auch die Burgruine auf dem Ilberg und die Wanderung zum Bahnhof Netzkater, wo wir das Steinkohleschaubergwerk Rabensteiner Stollen besichtigt haben, ein tolles und zu empfehlendes Erlebnis. Nordhausen ist nicht weit entfernt und bildet einen Kontrast zu Wernigerode, da viele Altbauten den Krieg nicht überstanden haben und die Altbausubstanz heute arg verteilt liegt. In der uns empfohlenen traditionsreichen Gaststätte "Zum Socken" im Stadtzentrum haben wir am Silvesterabend 2014 vorzüglich gespeist.”
