Best holiday resort in Croatia: Split

Today we conclude this little journey through all the winning places with the last part of our series, in which we introduce you to the winners of this year’s atraveo award for the best holiday resort.

As Croatia is a such a popular travel destination for you, it was high time that we expanded the scope of the atraveo award to include the sunny Balkan state. And then the debut winner turned out to be a real pearl of the Adriatic! Split very narrowly beat the other no-less-charming competitors with 4.6 points.

The famous coastal city awaits its holiday guests with a great combination of an ideal holiday paradise and cultural richness. While the wide bay and nearby islands such as Brac, Hvar, Solta and Ciovo score, above all, with their great beaches, Split itself makes an impression with its unique historic quarter. Wander alongside historic houses, through winding streets and across lively squares. Markets and shops invite you to take a stroll and one café or another will allow you to occasionally linger a little longer and observe the colourful hustle and bustle.

The origin of the historic quarter dates back to a palace, which the Roman Emperor Diocletian had built on the coast more than 1,700 years ago. Even today, the remnants of this ancient palace complex are easy to recognize in the city’s historic quarter because subsequent generations made use of the stones of the monumental building structure or have simply integrated their houses into the existing remains. Just below the centre is the Riva promenade, on which you can take a relaxed stroll, especially during the evening hours.

Our tip: atraveo offers you some apartments that are located right in the historic heart of Split. Meld a beach and cultural holiday in a unique way here.

We are currently in contact with the winning resorts to arrange an appointment to present the award. Each of the resorts shall, of course, formally receive the popular atraveo trophy as an accolade.

We hereby say "Congratulations" again to all the winners!
