The Harz region – the northernmost German Mittelgebirge. It lies at the intersection of Niedersachsen, Sachsen-Anhalt and Thüringen. It is an increasingly popular holiday and trip destination for all ages. The region offers its guests many places of interest such as castles, lakes, mines and historical timber-framed towns. Walks between mountains and valleys offer unique impressions of nature. A day trip by car through the Harz region reveals how mighty these mountains at the heart of Germany are. The B242 takes you everywhere in the Harz region. Directly along the route, places such as Bad Harzburg, Braunlage, Sorge, Tanne, Trautenstein, Hasselfelde, Stiege, Güntersberge and Harzgerode await you. The Brocken, Wurmberg, the towns Wernigerode, Quedlinburg and Goslar, as well as the Harz narrow-gauge railway are within easy access. Whether it is hiking, mountaineering, swimming, cycling or town visits – everything is possible in the Harz region, at the heart of which is the national park.
