Our house, Rowsas Garten, is on the edge of Waldheim. The centre is a 20-minute walk away.
The house was built in 1901 and looks like a villa. It currently comprises two apartments, each with its own front door from the stairwell. The ground-floor apartment is occupied by the owners, while the holiday apartment is on the first floor. It has a cosy living room with a generous sitting area and satellite TV. The bedroom is furnished with a double bed. The kitchen is well-equipped with an electric stove and oven, kettle, coffee machine and Senseo, but no dishwasher. The kitchen provides access to the children’s room with two single beds. The bathroom has a bath, shower, washbasin and toilet. A guest bed can be provided on request, as well as a child’s bed, a highchair and a baby bath. There are a washing machine and a vacuum cleaner in the cupboard in the stairwell.
There is a big garden around the house that you can use. There are several terraces where you can enjoy the peace and quiet. There is space for children to play. About 200 metres away there is a large car park opposite the restaurant/guesthouse Walfrieden. A little stream flows by behind the house. If you open the bedroom window, you can sleep with the babbling of water. In the morning you will be woken by the twittering of the birds that live in the many trees around the house.
There are several local supermarkets and further shops in Döbeln, 12km away. You can get to Waldheim, which is near the motorway, by train or bus. There is a reservoir lake nearby, where theatre performances are held in summer. There is a castle (Kriebstein) by the lake that you can visit. There are waymarked hiking and cycling paths. One of the neighbouring villages has an outdoor pool. Dresden, Leipzig and Chemnitz, each 60km from Waldheim, are interesting trip destinations. Brochures for other places of interest are available in the apartment. You can hire canoes and dinghies in Grimma (by the Mulde) 50km away and go for trips on the Mulde. In winter you can go alpine or cross-country skiing or snowboarding in Oberwiesental 100km away. Sachsen is a new federal state and the locals are friendly and accommodating. It is home to the ‘Sächsische Schweiz’ with its impressive rock formations (see photos). The spa town Rathen is the start of a beautiful walk over and through the cliffs. It takes about two hours to drive there, but it is an experience for life.
